Working in the Biotechnology industry is very rewarding; knowing that you are helping save lives is a valuable experience. However, when most people think about working in the Biotech industry, they only envision a lab full of scientists. What they don't know is that this is not the case. In order for a Biotech company to be truly successful, many other functions must be involved that do not require a Biochemistry or Microcell biology degree. Anyone can be involved in making a difference for the future of our healthcare.
Time: Friday, December 7, 4:30pm to 6:00pm
Location: 269 Campus Drive West, CCSR-S 1226, Stanford, CA 94304 (Stanford Center for Clinical Science Research)
Guest Speaker Bio:
Carolyn Tsao has been working in the Biotechnology industry since she was a freshman in high school, as a summer job in the Administration department. The company, called Zymed Laboratories, Inc., is a life sciences research and clinical diagnostic company (now a part of Invitrogen) that produces immunochemicals. She enjoyed the working environment and her coworkers so much that she went back every summer until she graduated from high school. Carolyn then went on to attend UCLA and majored in English with a minor in Asian American Studies. Immediately after graduation, she returned to work at Zymed in the Human Resources department. Four years later, she wanted to broaden her knowledge on corporate business so she left to attend UCI for her Masters in Business Administration (MBA). After obtaining her degree in 2007, Carolyn started working at Genemed Biotechnologies, Inc., a company that specializes in contract development and manufacturing services, as well as in in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), as a Director of Human Resources. In 2010, she earned a SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) certification.
